From the rugged hills of Satara,
led entirely by women
In the drought-prone heart of Man Taluka, Satara, resilience isn't just a word — it's the harvest. Mandprabha Farmer Producer Company is more than a company; it is a movement of rural women turning the grit of the hills into some of India's finest rajma, pulses and grains, sold under the AgroGems mark.
The company's entire director board is women. Of its 439 shareholders, 195 are women — and 188 of them (96.4%) hold farmland titles in their own name, a rare marker of land-rights progress in rural Maharashtra. Backed by the Maharashtra government's SMART Project (Balasaheb Thackeray Agri-Business & Rural Transformation, World Bank-supported), the company runs its own warehousing, grading and quality-control infrastructure rather than selling raw, unsorted grain at the farm gate.
Turnover nearly doubled in one year — from ₹3.48 crore (2023–24) to ₹6.90 crore (2024–25) — and average member profit rose from ₹2,000–3,000 to ₹3,500–4,500 per season. The company itself has created 15 local jobs, keeping young workers like Nilesh Bhosale from having to migrate to Mumbai for work.
