PM POSHAN — Millets in School Meals
In 2025 the Centre asked states/UTs to introduce millets (jowar, bajra, ragi) into the mid-day meal menu under PM POSHAN, especially in districts where millets are a culturally accepted staple, and to procure them locally from FPOs and women's SHGs under "Vocal for Local." Uttar Pradesh, for instance, added bajre ki khichdi to its Friday menu in July 2025.
How to apply: State School Education Department
Shree Anna Abhiyan — Odisha Millets Mission
India's largest and most-cited state millet mission, active across 177 blocks in 30 districts, targeting a 25% rise in local millet consumption, 1,000+ post-harvest/processing units, and a Millet Service Centre in every district (2024-25 to 2026-27 phase). Despite 93% fund utilisation in 2025-26, the proposed 2026-27 outlay was cut nearly 31%, shrinking the planned demonstration area from 1.5 lakh to 1 lakh hectares — a decision farmer groups and FPOs have flagged as a risk to the mission's momentum.
How to apply: Odisha Dept. of Agriculture & Farmers' Empowerment
